Hats Off To Kids!

Posted on March 30, 2009

There’s a lesson in here somewhere to all of us.

Most or even all of the adults I know are talking somberly about the current financial crisis. There are a lot of doomsayers, predicting worldwide desolation and even the end of the world as we know it. But they are definitely focusing on the half empty glass, and it certainly isn’t cheering to hear. » read more »

Challenging Times

Posted on March 24, 2009

Although I chat with you here about my writing, my travels, my kids, my philosophies about life, I am not unaware of what difficult times these are, and how truly frightening for some. On the one hand, I don’t like the idea of dwelling on the anxieties of the times (how much fun is that?), and I hate the idea of spreading panic as some people do. (There is always some dark person in the crowd just itching to scare us all to death. I just hate that stuff. I’d rather give people hope, » read more »

I’m Back!

Posted on March 16, 2009

Hi Everybody,

I’ve surfaced again, after working on the first draft of a new book, and before that, the final draft of another book. (Well, almost final, since I will have two more rounds of re-writes to do on it), and the one in first draft is just beginning, with much editing and many re-writes ahead. And I’ve taken a break, between rounds of editing. So now I can chat with you again, (until I go back to work). » read more »

Surviving Cupid

Posted on February 19, 2009

Getting through Valentine’s Day is not as easy as it looks. Flowers, candy, romance, how complicated can that be? Sometimes very. My own early experiences with this holiday were questionable at best. My first memory of Valentine’s Day was being the only kid in third grade who did not get a valentine from anyone. I was crushed. This was not a good omen for the years to come. » read more »

Writing

Posted on February 17, 2009

As I start another book, I’m getting off another message to those of you who read my blogs. And I notice that some of the recent responses from you ask about my writing habits.

For those of you who also write, I always say that there is no one ‘right way’ to do it (or anything in life). Some people write half a page a day and agonize over each word and sentence. Others write pages and pages, and that’s fine too. Whatever works. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else’s writing style or habits. We each do whatever works best for us. » read more »

Fear of Flying

Posted on February 9, 2009

I went to a dinner party the other night in Paris, and noticed the man on my left whispering earnestly to the woman on his left. It looked like a serious conversation, and looking slightly embarrassed, the woman shared what they were talking about. The man between us was the head of Air France, and she explained that she had been desperately afraid to fly and he had arranged for her to take a class that dealt with fear of flying, and it was a huge success and she’s been flying comfortably ever since. And I could really relate to that!!! » read more »

Kind, Tenderhearted, Forgiving

Posted on February 6, 2009

Although I’m sure we all agree that religion is a very personal thing, I will share with you that I often read from the Bible when I go to bed at night. My days are long and stressful, and with many kids, a big career, and a lot of obligations and responsibilities, I ‘multi-task’ and juggle about a million balls from the time I wake up until I go to bed at the end of my (often 20 hour) day. And I need to kind of de-stress before I go to sleep. Reading religious articles that inspire me, or reading from the Bible really does it for me. It gives me back some perspective, and makes me feel that I am not carrying the whole world on my shoulders alone. And whatever one’s beliefs, there are some great reminders in the Bible, that apply to our dealings with other people, how we treat them, and expect to be treated in return. As I said, it works for me. » read more »

Triple Blessing

Posted on February 3, 2009

In the space of a week recently, I had the pleasure of visiting 3 of my daughters. A real triple blessing for me!!! I’m busy, but so are they, and it’s hard for them to get away from their jobs, lives, and commitments, so roughly once every 3 to 6 weeks, I try to visit them in their cities. I wish they would/could come home more often, and more than that I wish we lived in the same city. » read more »

New Addition

Posted on January 30, 2009

How could I forget to tell you? We’ve had a new addition since a few days before Christmas!!! A puppy!!! Another miniature Brussels Griffon. (When I got my first one, the breeder said that they’re addictive and I’d never be able to have just one. Ha!!! I thought….yeah, right, sure….just what I need, two dogs…..well, she was right. I had my second one within the year, and eventually had three of them at the same time. I have a little princess now, named ‘Gracie’, her photo is in the section about my dogs. I added 2 more a year after I got her. And now this is my fourth!!! Uh oh!!!). » read more »
