Paris in the Fall
Hi there!!! I’m having a really fun time enjoying Paris in the autumn. After a brief wintry blast a few weeks ago, when I got here, it turned to Indian summer again shortly after, with warm sunny days and gentle nights, and all the best things about autumn. The leaves were turning slowly, a few drizzly days but mostly sunshine, a brief school holiday (for All Saints Day), and everyone in a good mood. With the last of the balmy weather, it’s hard to imagine how cold it will be here in a month or so. Winter seems ages away, but I know that in a few weeks, suddenly there will be a blast of winter, and then we’ll be in for cold weather for several months. But there is nothing prettier than Paris in the fall, except maybe Paris in the spring…..or even under a layer of snow, which makes the city more magical than ever. It’s hard to imagine a time of year when Paris isn’t beautiful, except maybe after a string of rainy gray days when one’s spirits start to droop a bit, but it’s such a beautiful city that I always love being here. And right now, in the autumn sunshine, it’s impossible to resist.
I’ve been having fun going to art fairs, and art shows, my favorite auction house, seeing friends for lunch and dinner, and sometimes just walking and enjoying the beauty of the city. I have to admit, I missed Halloween with my kids. They go all out and have so much fun dressing up and going to Halloween parties (even in their 20’s), that next year I want to be home for it. But this year, I was happy to be here. I gave a little Halloween dinner for friends, and everyone had fun. They don’t really celebrate Halloween in Paris, although they know about it now, but it’s more of an American holiday. (There’s no Thanksgiving in France either, or anywhere in Europe, that’s a strictly American holiday, but I won’t be here by then. I wouldn’t miss Thanksgiving with my kids for anything!!!). But I am thoroughly enjoying the last of the autumn days in Paris. I love the definition of the seasons, where you know exactly what time of year it is just by looking out the window—-not like San Francisco where it is cold and foggy pretty much all year round, with a bone chilling wind off the bay at night. I am cold in San Francisco all year round, except for a few golden days of hot weather that only happen a few days a year, although it’s a pretty city too.
I hope your fall is off to a good start, the kids are back in school, or you’re settling into your job again after the summer. The beginning of the fall always give me a charge, like going back to school, as I gain momentum with my writing. I always write most in the fall and winter months.
I had a new book come out in hardcover about a week ago, called “Southern Lights”. It’s about a murder trial, the female prosecutor, and part of the book takes place in the South. I really love that book, and I hope you will too!!!! And I’m starting another new one soon!!! Stay tuned!! My lazy days in Paris will be over soon!!!

Oh Mrs. Steel I truely enjoy reading your books I have a colletion of hardcover books and a few paper back covers as well. When I buy your next book that out now NOT had a vehicle to go to the bookstore to get your latest but when I do I can stay up all night and sometimes finish reading it. Please continue to write your great books you put out. I am trying to get some of your first books you publish, I will look in book stores or used book stores. I have every single book that you have written whether they are paperback or hard cover, I have enjoyed reading not only once but several times and I continue rereading them over and over again.

When my husband was stationed in Germany back in the 80’s we celebrated Thanksgiving with our German friends. We have some very funny stories that we share every year. It was fun but I was glad to come home to our family and celebrate with them. I will always treasure my memories of our Thanksgiving in Germany.

Hi Danielle – Love your blog and your adventures and lovely life. However, Canadians also happily celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. It is a very special fall holiday, the second weekend in October. Every year finds us travelling to be with family and honour the abundant fall harvest. Hope you too find yourself with dear family as your country now turns toward this special holiday. Enjoy!

Thank you for writing great novels. You constantly provide me with “free” vacations as your novels transport me to places I long to visit. I saw your photo dressed in black slacks, beautiful cashmere coat and bag. You look absolutely fabulous and I just know that you will find an equally fabulous man to spend your life with. It does, however, make me a little sad that you feel lonely. There are so many couples who are more lonely that when they were single. I am sure you already know that. So, Ms. Steele, I am going to provide you with a free treatment and I guarantee you will meet someone special within six months. I believe that if one asks the universe for what one wants, it will be granted. Since this is what you want, an ideal mate, I will perform regular prayer rituals for you. They do work.
