2/26/18, Binge Worthy Series

Hi Everyone,
I hope you’re having busy, fun, interesting weeks—-in spite of a last gasp of winter in a lot of places. It’s been cold on the West Coast, alternately freezing and weirdly warm in parts of the East, freezing in Paris. Winter is definitely still with us.

As I’ve said before, I have a tendency to hibernate in winter (like a Mama Bear!!). I do a lot of writing, and between bouts of writing, my latest passion in recent years are the series that I’ve grown attached to and really enjoy. And whenever possible, I binge watch them, when a new season comes out in its entirety, or when I decide to re-watch my favorite series. It is so cozy on a winter’s night to watch my favorite series in bed, on TV, or on my computer, with my three little dogs tucked in around me. They love my winter laziness, and don’t know how they got so lucky, as I sit in bed and they get my company for a whole day or evening.

My all-time very favorite series, and the first one I ever watched is Downton Abbey, I don’t even know how often I’ve watched all six seasons by now. I recently found it on Netflix, while I was in Paris, and although I have it on DVD’s, I happily watched it on Netflix all weekend. It was like meeting up with old friends again, as the characters on the show are for the most part endearing, and after devotedly watching for six years, I loved seeing them all again. My daughters and I were REALLY sorry when the show ended!! I would have been happy with another six seasons!!  More recently, I have loved The Crown, also on Netflix. And Victoria, (about the young Queen Victoria), both of those series have had two seasons so far. And on a lazy weekend recently, I discovered “Call The Midwife “also on Netflix, a British series, set in the l950’s in London’s somewhat rough East End, with a convent full of nuns, and young nurse/midwives, all of them with lots of personality, and the stories of the people they take care of, and their own lives, are very poignant. It’s beautifully written, and perfectly cast, and deals with many of the issues and challenges women faced in the 1950s.  It’s currently in its seventh season, and I binge-watched that too, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Oddly enough, all of the series I have grown attached to are British. I’ve had a wonderful time watching these series, and became totally immersed in them and the people in the story (the way people do with my books). The series provide a great break for me between books, and it’s fun to watch something I didn’t write!! If you watch them, I hope you enjoy them too!!!

Have a great week!!

love, Danielle

Downton Abbey is wonderful! I, too, hated to see it end! Thanks for sharing your shows! I’ll have to look into “Call the Midwife.”

I think a lot of people’s binge series recently has been watching the Olympics! Although I’m not a sports person, I am an Olympics fan. There is so much to see, and these athletes put their lives into becoming who they are, for this moment. So much heart, spirit, love, and drama…

I ended up on Pyeongchang time!! And am now in Olympic Withdrawal Syndrome! I wake up at the wrong time. Thank heavens, I discovered that I did pay my bills! I keep looking at the TV set, expecting more figure skating, womens’ hockey, bobsleigh, anything!! But all I get is dull regular programming…. Worst thing- I ate all my favourite munchies. Yep, pop, chips, cookies, chocolates, popcorn. And, now I’m avoiding the scale in the bathroom like it’s Darth Vader!!

I wish you liked sports, but c’est la vie. The womens’ hockey final will go down in the history books as one of the best matches ever! The was like the cream of haute couture!! There will never ever be another like it.

Part of why I like these Olympians, is because of their attitude towards life. I’m looking for something to keep me going. Their words bring me life.

Paralympics will be next, and am looking forward to that. All this reminds me, too of one of your novels that you wrote. About the skier, who had an accident, became paralyzed, but lived a new life.

Bless you and your sweet little dogs. I’m so glad you curl up together. Pets are such a comfort.

You are one of the few “guaranteed” authors that I feel comfortable pre-ordering without even reading the book description (Nora Roberts is my only other guaranteed author). You have lived life to the fullest and can tell a story in a way that few others can even approach! Write as often as possible – I can’t get enough!!!!!

We have a lot of shows in common although, I have yet to watch Downton Abbey. I have every intention of watching it very soon.
Call the Midwife is a favorite of mine and I have just finished watching the 7th season last night .. It interested me because it is around the time I was born, also by midwife.. It wasn’t in Poplar East End, but in Bradford Yorkshire England in what is called Bronte Country. I absolutely adore my roots in Yorkshire, my Dad always called me his lit’l Yorkshire lass or his Galway Girl..I was conceived in Galway Ireland..

I love your books and I am now reading The Duchess.. not too far into it, yet already want to see that brother of Angelique get what is coming to him and his snotty family..

I do have my favorites.. such as The Ring, Thurston House, Echoes was an amazing book. Jewels and Family Album.. I love the Epics, Granny Dan , Zoya and Silent Honor.. I have red all of your books but the ones that span years of history are the best.. Please write more of them..
I was raised in Europe my dad was in the R.A.F. then came to Canada.. then back to the U.K.. I have two cities as well.
I spent Christmas 2015 in Yorkshire, wanting to spend possibly the last Christmas with my Mother. Unfortunately she passed 4 days after I arrived November 23 2015…But she did wait for me to arrive and said ” There’s my beautiful Daughter and gave me a big cuddle.. I sat with her all of that night and the next day.. I just sat beside her bedside in my brothers home and held her hand and cared for her the best I could.. My brother had been looking after her for five years and he needed his rest.. so I took over..Where ever I go I always have one of your books with me so I can escape the reality of losing someone I love..

    Thank you
    Always Alexandra

    Dear Danielle:

I’ve been binge-reading your novels and am absolutely hooked on them. You are so life-affirming and refuse to give in to despair.I have had a lot of tragedy in my life and you always pull me up.

    Thank you so much.
